The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 place a general duty on employers to provide first-aid treatment to employees within the workplace environment. The employer has overall responsibility for the risk assessment (assessment of first-aid need) that will establish the level of first-aid cover required. If, having assessed first-aid needs, an employer decides to appoint first aiders, the first aiders must have a valid certificate of competence.Course ObjectivesTo refresh knowledge and understanding of administering first aid at work. This course provides information and updates to secure delegates already sound knowledge gained from their previous First Aid at Work training.By the end of the course participants will be able to:Act safely, promptly and effectively during emergencies at work;Use first aid equipment;Understand employer duties and legislation;Maintain first aid records;Recognise the importance of personal hygiene in first aid procedures.Who is it for? Anyone who has already completed an Award in First Aid at Work course where the 3 year certificate is due to expire within the next three months.Topics Covered:roles and responsibilities of a first aider;assessing an incident;unconscious casualties;cardiopulmonary resuscitation;choking;external bleeding;shock;minor injuries;secondary survey;injuries to bones, joints and muscles;suspected head and spinal injuries;chest injuries;burns and scalds;eye injuries;sudden poisoning;anaphylaxis;major illnesses.AssessmentThe course is assessed through a practical exam. If successful the delegate will receive a First Aid At Work certificate, which is valid for three years.
